Peppy was injured at 18 months of age when a ranch hand accidentally hit him with a tractor. This resulted in surgery to repair the injury. Peppy went on to be trained by Lee Garcia, Leonard Davis and Berg Performance Horses and was found to be  good minded and athletic. However, he continued to protect his injury when pressed to perform at high levels, thus the decision to retire him to trail and stud.
